Clydesdale Wagon & Saddle Rides

We can tailor a high country experience for you ranging from a one hour wagon / saddle ride to a genuine NZ adventure to our mountain huts. Stay in our homestead or come for an interesting day trip.

WAGON RIDES
Join us, share our passion and experience a wagon ride like no other. Our tracks are full of variety as we take you on a farm tour in this breath taking landscape of rivers, tussocks, mountains & glaciers. We go off the beaten track into a magical landscape that can't be experienced from the road. With loads of great photo opportunities and the chance to experience the high country at the horses pace your wagon ride will definitely be a memorable trip. We have two off-road wagons that can seat 10 and 16 respectively. Price: $100 base charge to harness up etc then $10pp/per hour.
We also have a large vintage wagon being modified that is capable of seating 40+ people so perfect for bus groups. Groups over 16 please email 'erewhonstation@ruralinzone.net' for a quote.

SADDLE RIDES
Suitable for riders of varying ability/size, with steadier rides and mounts for the nervous novice and forward going horses for those wishing to experience the thrill of riding a REAL horse!!! Despite their size the Clydesdales are gentle giants and perfect for people lacking confidence. They are very intelligent and know how to put a grin on peoples faces! $65pp/ph.

OVERNIGHT HUT TREKS
This is the ultimate off-road trip into the mountains from the comfort of a full suspension rubber tyred wagon. Currently this trip takes you to our Hermitage Hut right in the heart of the mountains. This is a 5 hour trip including stopping for lunch at the remains of the original 1860's Stroneschrubie hut at the foot of Mt McRae. Once at the Hermitage you will enjoy billy tea and a meal cooked for you on the open fire before resting your body in the outdoor bath while gazing at the incredible night sky. This trip isn't for the faint hearted as it can be bumpy on tracks the river has washed out, there's a long drop, it can be cold plus the horses are forever trying to pinch hut food! However, these minor discomforts are more than outweighed by being in a spectacularly beautiful part of the world far from civilisation but in the capable hands of the Clydies! Currently this trip is dependent on the river being safe to cross which can be a problem when the spring Norwest melts snow. However, we are in the process of building another hut closer to home that will give us another option. Email 'erewhonstation@ruralinzone.net' for a quote and details.

Check out this lovely Wagon Ride Poem written by a lovely old lady who visited Erewhon with a bus group last year. We thoroughly enjoyed taking them all out for wagon rides and just wish we had more time to talk to everyone especially this talented woman. Reading her poem gave us goose bumps as she has captured the day so well.

Alternatively a picture tells a thousand words so check out more photos in our Clydesdale Rides album
